Two United Way Hands On Greenville volunteers, who together donated more than 821 hours, or nearly five full weeks, were named the 2010-2011 Volunteers of the Year during the organization's annual Volunteer Appreciation Night.

Kim Diello was named Volunteer of the Year for the first time after donating 445 hours, or 18.5 days, to volunteer service. Diello has volunteered for various city events, including Downtown Alive and Fall For Greenville. She has also served at county-wide special events including the Trillium Arts Festival, the Spinx Run Fest, Beach Ball and the Greer Relief Wing Fling. She's volunteered on HOG Day each year and has been a part of the planning process for the annual Piggy Bank Auction for the past few years.

Tim McLaughlin volunteered 376 hours, or 15.6 days, to receive the award for the second straight year. McLaughlin has volunteered with Greenville Glen Assisted Living, Greenville Humane Society, American Red Cross and the American Diabetes Association.  He also has helped at many of the city events downtown, including Fall For Greenville and Main Street Jazz, as well as the United Ministries Walk for the Homeless.

During Volunteer Appreciation Night, held Aug. 18 at Wild Wing Cafe, United Way Hands On Greenville Advisory Board Chair David Ramseur thanked all HOG volunteers for their dedication and service to the community.

"HOG wouldn’t exist without your commitment, dedication, passion and generosity," said Ramseur. "Because of you, we truly are making and difference and improving the future for all of us."

This past year, Hands On Greenville’s existing volunteers were joined by 4,560 new volunteers.  There were over 34,749 volunteer opportunities filled, delivering over 49,892 hours of community service throughout Greenville County and making an estimated economic contribution of $1,034,061.
