United Way sets 2010 campaign goal at $14.6 million

United Way of Greenville County is aiming high for the community as it prepares to launch its 2010 campaign next month.

United Way’s volunteer board of trustees announced today it has set a goal of $14.6 million for the annual community campaign, which kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Carolina First Center in Greenville.

“We are setting a goal for a record campaign because we are facing a record need,” said Campaign Chair Dick Wilkerson, chairman and president of Michelin North America. “Two years of harsh economic conditions have created tough times for many. It’s up to us as a caring, generous community to band together and lend a hand to those in need.”

Led by Wilkerson and Vice Chair Annette Allen, general manager, Greenville Office of Fluor Corporation, the campaign is expected to rally together approximately 40,000 donors and 700 workplaces in support of United Way’s mission to improve the quality of life for all in Greenville County.

Dollars raised in the campaign help fund 86 local programs that effectively address the essential and immediate needs of individuals and families, as well as United Way’s long-term work to eliminate future needs through initiatives aimed at improving school readiness for children, high school graduation for youth and financial stability for all.

The campaign will run through Tuesday, Nov. 9.
