Professional Groups:

United Way Women’s Leadership was created in 1998 as a subcommittee of The Palmetto Society, United Way’s leadership giving recognition group. The purpose of Women’s Leadership
is to recognize women’s philanthropic efforts in our community.

Women’s Leadership group serves two purposes:

  • to develop leadership opportunities in civic and non-profit organizations for professional women
  • to encourage participation as a Palmetto Society member

What Is Women’s Leadership?

Women’s Leadership members are those who contribute $1,000 or more annually through the United Way. The goal of Women’s Leadership is to strengthen our community by identifying and promoting women who are dedicated to furthering philanthropy. This group continues to recognize the contributions of women who make a significant, positive difference in the community.

Women in these professions have come together to energize and inspire their peers to make a difference by taking a leadership role in advancing United Way’s work, and making a personal financial commitment. Each group celebrates their efforts annually with an event that recognizes their care and dedication to the Greenville community.

What We Do

  • “Women Make a Difference:” Annual luncheon commemorating women’s philanthropic contributions to our community. This luncheon incorporates the “Wear One, Bring One” service project held in conjunction with the annual luncheon. Attendees bring new undergarments to the luncheon which are donated to a local emergency shelter for women. More than 500 sets of bras and panties have been collected annually at this luncheon.
  • New Member Reception: Women’s Leadership members are invited to attend a reception in honor of all new members. New members have the opportunity to meet and network with existing members.z
  • Jobs to Careers – Women Helping Women:  The Jobs to Careers – Women Helping Women scholarship has been established by United Way’s Women’s Leadership to help women train for career opportunities. This program will provide overall support and funding for deserving, qualified women who are on their journey to move from a job to a career path, and ultimately, self-sufficiency. Women’s Leadership members invest their financial resources, time, knowledge and energy into supporting women in Greenville County who are on the road to reaching their personal, professional and financial dreams. If you are interested in learning more about the program or would like to apply for scholarship assistance, please contact United Way’s Leadership Giving staff.
  • Board/Committee Involvement: Members are given the opportunity to submit their names to local agencies for consideration for positions on agency boards and committees.
  • E-Newsletters: An e-mail publication is sent to members three times a year to update them on Women's Leadership and United Way news. Each issue features a Women’s Leadership member, highlights of Women’s Leadership events and important upcoming dates to remember. We also share how dollars given by Women’s Leadership members are making a difference in the community.
Event Sponsors make our events possible.

Women are leading the way in philanthropy in our community through their contributions to United Way. If you would like to become a Women’s Leadership member or would like more information, please contact a member of United Way’s Leadership Giving staff.
