United Way Young Philanthropists (YP) was created in 1999 to encourage more young people to begin planning their philanthropy and to provide opportunities to engage in the community and with each other.

What Is YP?

YP is not a “what” but a “who.” YPs are young leaders in the community, age 40 and under, who contribute $1,000 or more annually through the United Way. Recently, a new subcommittee of YP, the YP20s, was formed to reach young philanthropists in their twenties.

What We Do

  • Born Learning Trails: Members assist in installing trails designed to encourage parent/child interaction in everyday settings to promote early childhood education.
  • “Be A Bunny” Event: An annual recognition event for members only that is combined with a service project.  Attendees are asked to bring Easter Baskets with them to the event to donate to special children.
  • Summer Celebration: YP members and their guests spend an evening networking while listening to an outdoor concert.
  • Community Leaders Luncheon: YPs giving at the Reaching New Heights Level ($2,500 or more) are invited to a special luncheon in their honor and have the opportunity to interact with local CEOs and community leaders.
  • Board/Committee Involvement: Members are given the opportunity to submit their names to local agencies for consideration for positions on agency boards and committees.
  •  E-Newsletters: An e-mail publication is sent to members to update them on the latest events and United Way news. Each newsletter spotlights a YP member and provides success stories people United Way donors have helped through their contributions.
Event Sponsors help make our events possible.

United Way Young Philanthropists is an exciting group of young leaders. If you are interested in joining YP and would like additional information or if you have any questions, please contact United Way’s Leadership Giving staff.
