VISTA Bridges Now Recruiting. Join. Change the Greenville Community
Are you considering national service and want to make an impact and create change? Join the AmeriCorps VISTA Bridges program through the United Way of Greenville County and do exactly that!
The goal of AmeriCorps VISTA Bridges aligns with the Financial Stability focus area of United Way of Greenville County. The Financial Stability goal is to build organizational capacity in order to create opportunities for low-income families and individuals through a variety of financial stability services that will increase their income, help build savings, and allow them to gain and sustain assets. The primary responsibilities of VISTA Bridges Members will focus on connecting the network of nonprofit providers in Greenville County to one another so that their services may be better coordinated for low-income families and individuals. A network of support systems is proven to lift people from dire situations to Financially Stable homes, and United Way of Greenville County is committing to this philosophy through the VISTA Bridges program.
The organizational capacity created by Bridges is bringing new energy and resources to the economic opportunity partners, as the VISTA members allow them to go beyond their current service delivery. The Bridges program engages partner organizations in further developing and enhancing the strategies and initiatives in the area of volunteer income tax assistance (VITA), financial literacy, individual development accounts (IDAs), and workforce development. VISTA activities range from developing outreach and sustainability plans where there currently are none, designing and implementing financial stability programs that complement existing client services, community outreach and volunteer recruitment, and grant research and writing. By increasing income, building savings, and gaining and sustaining assets—activities at the foundation of the Bridges program—people can begin to break the cycle of poverty.
