United Way kicks off School Tools program to benefit Greenville County students

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Giving kids the tools they need to succeed in school and in life is the ultimate goal of United Way School Tools, a program designed to give students the best possible start to the school year.

This year’s School Tools distribution day will take place at 8–11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, at Freetown Community Center (200 Alice Avenue, Greenville, SC 29611). Smaller satellite locations have also been established this year to give families throughout the county an opportunity to visit a site convenient to where they live (see additional site list below). Backpacks and supplies will be available at each location while supplies last.

“A contribution to School Tools can provide a student with the supplies they need to help them succeed throughout the school year,” said United Way of Greenville County President and CEO Meghan Barp. “Your support helps more than 3,000 Greenville County students each year on their journey to become future leaders in our community.”

Those interested in contributing to this year’s effort have a couple of options to get involved:

Make a financial gift

Text SCHOOLTOOLS to 41444 or click here to make a donation by Sunday, August 12. Every $25 donated will provide a bookbag and school supplies to a local student in time for the first day of school.

Provide school supplies

Any individual who would like to contribute can join the effort by filling a bag with supplies (see recommended items below), label it with the appropriate grade level and drop it off at United Way of Greenville County, 105 Edinburgh Court, Greenville, SC 29607 during regular business hours before Friday, August 10.
