What if a few hours of your time could help a family keep more of what they earned?
For 20 years, our volunteers have helped people across the Upstate access free, trusted tax preparation and keep more of their hard-earned money.
This year, you can join them.
You don’t have to be a tax expert to make a difference with VITA. Volunteers receive free training and IRS certification to provide accurate, free tax preparation services. Whether you’re looking to give back, learn a new skill, or serve your neighbors, your time can have a direct financial impact for individuals and families. Our volunteers are an essential part of helping people access important tax credits and deductions like the EITC, Child Tax Credit, Education Tax Credits and Child Care tax deductions.
With locations across the Upstate of South Carolina, you can volunteer where it is most convenient for you. All sites vary in service hours and there is no minimum time requirement to volunteer. You can commit as much or as little time as you are available.
Step 1
Sign Up to Volunteer
Create your volunteer profile in the Better Impact portal. This registration gives you access to important updates, training details, and future volunteer opportunities.
Step 2
Attend
Training
Learning tax preparation can feel overwhelming at first, but we’ve got you! Sign up for a training and review our online Training Resources Collection.
Step 3
Complete Certification
When you’re ready to begin, follow the certification instructions provided in the VITA Volunteer Certification Guide.
Step 4
Start Volunteering
After you’re certified, you can begin signing up for shifts through the Better Impact volunteer portal.
