Project Joy
Project Joy was launched in 2020 to help make the season bright for families in our community by alleviating some of the burden of the holiday season and fulfilling a wish list of essential items. While most holiday programs focus on younger children, Project Joy specifically seeks to respond to the unmet needs of older students and their families.
2021 was our biggest year for Project Joy yet. Through the generosity of over 1,000 donors and volunteers — and partners like Forge Search, United Bank, Humana, GreenWood and Proterra — we were able to support 500 local students last year — and we know we can meet the needs of even more Greenville County students this season.
Support Project Joy
All families have been matched with generous volunteers, but you can still support Project Joy through a monetary gift. Your donation will help meet the needs of Greenville County students and their families.
Project Joy FAQs
You can support a family as an individual, family, group of friends, or office (just be sure to designate one person to register for the family you select). You can also make a monetary gift here.
We accept families recommended via Greenville County Schools. Please reach out to your school’s social worker to be recommended for next year.
Each family is different, but we recommend budgeting approximately $75-$100 per student to meet their clothing, personal care and miscellaneous needs.
We will announce a drop-off location soon! Drop-off dates will be Nov. 28–30.
Yes! Gift receipts are not required, but certainly help if the gift — like clothing or shoes — doesn’t fit.
Yes, please wrap your gifts before delivering to United Way. We recommend wrapping gifts as individually as possible — because who doesn’t love to open a bunch of presents? Just be sure to label all gifts (see next question).
It is important that you label each gift with the family number (and specific child within that family if applicable) to avoid any potential mix-up during distribution. Please wrap and label gifts as follows: Family A5/Child 1, Family A5, Child 2, etc.
The needs of each student and family are posted on our volunteer website via an anonymous numbering system. Once you have selected a family, please register for their number so others don’t select the same family. By registering for
a family, it takes their needs off the website and makes their wish list visible to only you.
Log into your volunteer account, hover over the “FOR VOLUNTEERS” drop menu, go to “MY ACCOUNT,” the click on “MY DONATIONS.” Your selected families will appear. Click “View Details” to pull up the wishlist.
We ask that you not unregister from a family after Nov. 14 to give each family a chance to be selected before the gifts are due, Nov. 28–30. Should you need to unregister after Nov. 14, we recommend you make a monetary gift to Project Joy to help ensure the needs of the family are met.
