Project Joy

Project Joy was launched in 2020 to help make the season bright for families in our community by alleviating some of the burden of the holiday season and fulfilling a wish list of essential items. While most holiday programs focus on younger children, Project Joy specifically seeks to respond to the unmet needs of older students and their families.

Through the generosity of over 1,000 donors and volunteers — and partners like Forge Search + Consulting; GreenWood, Inc; Holcim; Humana; ICAP Solutions; JTEKT North America; and United Bank — we were able to support 529 local students across 11 schools in 2022. Help us make the 2023 season our most impactful year yet!

Support Project Joy

Click below to support a Greenville County family. Project selection will run through Dec. 5.

You must be logged in to your volunteer account in order to sign up to support a family. Click here for a step-by-step process taking you through how to register.

In addition to signing up to support a family, you can also join us as a volunteer to help wrap miscellaneous gifts at one of our Project Joy wrapping parties on Thursday, Nov. 30, and Thursday, Dec. 7.

You can also support Project Joy through a monetary gift. Your donation will help meet the needs of Greenville County students and their families.

Finally, you can shop from our Amazon wishlist to have needed items shipped to our office.

Project Joy FAQs

You can support a family as an individual, family, group of friends, or office (just be sure to designate one person to register for the family you select). You can also make a monetary gift here or shop from our Amazon wishlist to have needed items shipped to our office.

We accept families recommended via Greenville County Schools. Please reach out to your school’s social worker to be recommended for next year.

Each family is different, but we recommend budgeting approximately $75-$100 per student to meet their clothing, personal care and miscellaneous needs.

Gifts can be dropped off at United Way of Greenville County (105 Edinburgh Ct, Greenville, SC 29607) from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, and noon – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, with a makeup collection day from 11am–4pm on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Yes! Gift receipts are not required, but certainly help if the gift — like clothing or shoes — doesn’t fit.

Yes, please wrap your gifts before delivering to United Way. We recommend wrapping gifts as individually as possible — because who doesn’t love to open a bunch of presents? Just be sure to label all gifts (see next question).

It is important that you label each gift with the family number (and specific child within that family if applicable) to avoid any potential mix-up during distribution. Please wrap and label gifts as follows: Family A5/Child 1, Family A5, Child 2, etc.

The needs of each student and family are posted on our volunteer website via an anonymous numbering system. Once you have selected a family, please register for their number so others don’t select the same family. By registering for a family, it takes their needs off the website and makes their wish list visible to only you.

Log into your volunteer account, hover over the “FOR VOLUNTEERS” drop menu, go to “MY ACCOUNT,” the click on “MY DONATIONS.” Your selected families will appear. Click “View Details” to pull up the wishlist.

We ask that you not unregister from a family after Nov. 14 to give each family a chance to be selected before the gifts are due, Nov. 28–30. Should you need to unregister after Nov. 14, we recommend you make a monetary gift to Project Joy to help ensure the needs of the family are met.
