United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free income tax assistance to thousands of individuals and families with a household income of $60,000 or less. IRS-trained and certified volunteers serve at 40 locations across the Upstate to help participants receive all eligible tax credits and deductions.
Returns are filed electronically, and with direct deposit, refunds are deposited in 7-10 days.
Appointments are now available by calling 2-1-1 (also 1-866-892-9211). In addition to scheduling, 2-1-1 call specialists inform taxpayers of the documentation required for tax preparation, saving both time and frustration.

In addition to providing free tax preparation, VITA works to ensure everyone in the community receives all of the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.
