“Empowered Aging: Building the Knowledge and Confidence to Age with Grace”
While the fountain of youth is still a mystery, aging doesn’t have to be. The goal is to evolve and flourish as we age, not wilt and wither. Katy will highlight some of the natural changes – physically, cognitively, and emotionally – that occur with aging. Our focus will be on practical and realistic interventions to mitigate these challenges.
Katy has a BSN from Clemson University and a Master’s and Doctorate of Nursing practice from Medical University of South Carolina. She worked in primary care for several years before transitioning to a specialist role within the Division of Geriatrics. Katy’s primary role is the anchoring nurse practitioner at Prisma Health’s Center for Success in Aging, an outpatient dementia clinic. Her job is one of care manager that she shares with the physicians and the primary care team. Her passions include dementia
“Staying Stronger Longer”
Aging is something that affects everyone! We will all eventually experience significant sensory, motor, and cognitive changes. However, we do not age at the same rate.
June Martin is the founder and owner of New Start Concepts, a “think outside the box” functional fitness studio that has been assisting clients with being able to enjoy day-to-day movements since 2014. In addition, June is a contracted Personal Trainer at The Woodlands at Furman, where she trains residents to reach their physical and mobility goals. Lastly, since 2018 she has led a “Let’s Get Stronger” class at Furman University through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Prior to opening her own business, June was a YMCA fitness instructor, teaching everything from swimming to kickboxing to high ropes courses. June has found the power of participating in physical activity and how it can have a profoundly positive impact on a person’s life.
Her certifications include American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer, Coaching Senior Fitness, and Health Coach, American Heart Association CPR and AED certified, TRX suspension training, ACE Workshops, VIVO Barefoot Running Technique & Metabolic Training, Spinning Certified Instructor, Ropes Courses Incorporated: High Ropes, Low Ropes, and climbing wall certified, and Healthways silver sneakers instructor.

Tim works with the South Carolina Department of Aging in Columbia. The Greenville office covers six Upstate counties including Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg. He has been with the organization for 15 years.
Tim will present an overview of the services offered by the Area Agency on Aging and how those services can help you or a loved one.
Businesses and community organizations are invited to participate in the Senior Day vendor fair. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with attendees who are eager to learn about resources, products and services to support healthy, independent and fulfilling lives. The vendor fee is $50 and includes lunch for one attendee, a 6-foot table, and tablecloth.
Your sponsorship will play a crucial role in driving the success of Senior Day in its mission to empower, educate and connect older adults in Greenville County. View our sponsorship guide for details on sponsorship levels and benefits for your organization.
